Naija Label: How to connect Your PC to the Internet from your Mobile

Sometime ago, we rely on cables heavily to connect our laptop and PC to the Internet for web browsing, Email sending, chatting and downloading from our PC. Later wireless technology came to get rid of the wires. If you have a wireless router, you can connect your PC without wires which makes our room quite clean and organized.

With the development of new technology, you don’t need a wireless router to browse the internet from your laptop anymore. If you have a good Smartphone, you can use it as a modem to gain Internet access on your PC or your Laptops and its also known as MOBILE TETHERING.
At the moment, there are a few ways for your cell phone to function as an internet modem, and they are USB TETHERING, WI-FI TETHERING AND BLUETOOTH TETHERING. If you have a Wi-Fi, Bluetooth enabled Phone, Android or Windows Phone 7 Smartphone, and you can choose anyone of them and the settings are almost the same. However you will be charged for it.
USB tethering

If you have 3G network access from your mobile phone, USB is a good choice. For example. First you need to change your USB mode to “debugging of your phone” in settings–>applications–>development. Then download adb driver for x86 to your laptop and unzip it. Finally run Android Tethering PC client on your laptop and the job is finished on your PC.
Now you need to Android Tethering app on your phone, search tether on Android market if you do not have it on your mobile. Change its port to 6544 after you finish installing it and start the service. Now everything’s completed and you can start to browse the Internet from your laptop with your mobile as the modem.
WiFi tethering

If your Smartphone is Wi-Fi enabled, you can go with Wi-Fi tethering and it’s really simple and easy. You can use a Wi-Fi hotspot app to turn your phone into an internet access point. If you have iPhone running iOS 4.3+, you can enable your personal hotspot {you need to set a password} and your iPhone now acts like an access point.
Bluetooth tethering

Bluetooth now becomes an essential part of so many Smartphone, if you pair it with your laptop (you need to get an external Bluetooth USB Dongle if it is built with the laptop), you can now share 3G network access with your laptop.
If you have an iPhone 4.3, you can choose Bluetooth tethering in >>Personal hotspot setting.
Finally, you may get charged for Internet tethering when using it, always contact your carrier, or else you will be very mad at your phone bills.
